Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) looks at making the committed action which takes us towards our life goals and values. Acceptance is approached by allowing room for all emotions and experiences in life through mindfulness and diffusion (unhooking from unhelpful thoughts).

Acceptance doesn’t mean allowing bad things to happen but enables us to acknowledge a situation so we can take committed action to move through and not get stuck in the effect of it.  ACT places a lot of emphasis on our values as this is what drives us to create change. Together we will explore your values and what role they play in your life and how to make them work for you.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is a very practical therapy which Dr Russ Harris describes as being like playing a guitar, you need to pick the guitar up and practise to be able to learn, it’s no use looking at the notes and hoping to learn how to play.
