Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)
This approach enables us to look at how the mind is processing information which ultimately affects our beliefs, behaviours, communications and experiences. NLP looks at the connection between neurological processes, language and behavioural patterns learned through experience. NLP is exciting as it challenges our current systems to create change and flexibility. Techniques used can help with specific food addictions by “playing around” with how we currently view the food, similarly we can mix up images in other areas of life to lessen their effect on us or the opposite to enhance an image to make it work for us, this can include helping with motivation, goal setting and self-esteem.
Breaking it down!
Neuro-Linguistic Programming: The nervous system (the mind), through which our experience is processed via five senses (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, Olfactory and Gustatory)
Linguistic: Language and other nonverbal communication systems through which our neural representations are coded, ordered and given meaning. Includes (Pictures, Sounds, Feelings, Tastes, Smells, Words – Self Talk)
Programming: The ability to discover and utilize the programs that we run (our communication to ourselves and others) in our neurological systems to achieve our specific and desired outcomes.
In other words, NLP is how to use the language of the mind to consistently achieve our specific and desired outcomes.
